A crisis often carries an invitation to rethink what is working, and not working in our lives; it sometimes it sometimes nudges s us towards making new maps. Many of the themes explored in this new book, ‘Trellis For the Soul’ are born out of the in responses to a listening process I created, facilitated by the author during the pandemic days of 2020. ! Psychotherapist and retreats director, Martina Lehane Sheehan spent her days in lockdown writing and interviewing many people on what was helping them cope, especially when external things fell apart. Participants expressed what they felt were the ‘essentials for a soulful and flourishing life.
Through a synthesis of contemplative spirituality and modern psychology the author provides a framework for anyone struggling to navigate uncertain times. More importantly it guides us in creating new beginnings. Drawing on the wisdom of the Celtic/Desert mystical traditions, as well as from her own experiences hosting workshops nationally and internationally, the author invites the reader on a profound journey of spiritual development. The book creatively explores a contemporary and exciting interpretation of what in monastic tradition was called a rule of life. The suggested soul-strengthening practices will become a ‘trellis’ in combating anxiety, stress and an always-switched-on mindset. With chapters on stillness, community, well- being, the natural world and ‘holistic spirituality’, the purpose of this book is to retrieve what has become lost is in our spiritual lives and encourage whatever is ‘real, truthful and life-giving to grow and flourish again from the roots. It is perfectly geared for a group to work together, section by section in creating a supportive structure to live their daily lives.
Martina Lehane Sheehan is an accredited psychotherapist, spiritual director and author. She is regularly invited to facilitate retreats and workshops both nationally and internationally.
