On Wednesday 17th April, the Margaret Aylward Centre was filled with music and song, courtesy of the Holy Faith Past Pupils Choir under the direction of Marie Dunne CHF. Ciaran Coll, a staff member from St Mary’s Girls Holy Faith Secondary School and friend of the Centre accompanied the choir as they presented a wonderful repertoire of songs. The choir members have known each other for many years, even back as far as primary school where they sang together. They reconnected in more recent years for a memorial service for one of their classmates who had died and have now become a very accomplished choir. The concert was taking place to mark the 10 year anniversary of the Centre’s opening and to raise funds for Solidarity with South Sudan, a charity which aims to “create self-sustainable educational, health and pastoral institutions and programs that will help to empower South Sudanese people to build a just and peaceful society.

The evening began with “All in the April Evening,” the song which gave the evening its theme, and for the next hour or so, the huge crowd who filled the large rooms in the Centre were treated to classical, contemporary and sacred music as well as readings from the writing of John O’Donohue and Mary Oliver. There were three lovely solo performances and beautiful renditions of “Fan the Flame” and “The Polar Star”, both composed by Marie Dunne, and of special meaning to the Holy Faith sisters present. The whole evening was rounded off with the audience singing along to “Thank you for the Music, “ a most appropriate sentiment for everyone who had been so thoroughly entertained. We very much appreciate the time and effort of the choir, Marie and Ciaran in making the evening such a success, and to all who attended and raised almost €500 for such a worthy cause. Thank you.
